July Daydream

JULY DAYDREAM

Rock
pile
beckons
wandering
mountain walkers,
on this cobalt blue-sky morning.

Whilst
 all
 the while
long and loud,
a cacophony
 of birdsong,
trills and thrills
shy wattle blossoms,
sets their grey-green leaves a ‘quiver.
Bower birds,
 crimson rosellas,
 and bold green parrots
sing joy to
a warm, shining sun.

Come! Search this nest for hidden gems.
Yellow ochre, scribbly slate, crimson iron oxide,
white clay, marbled pebbly pieces, diamond crusted granite.
Bring a sparkle, a splatter, to garden and place these treasures under sweet lemon tree.
A seemingly senseless exercise, so some would say,
but lusty lizards love to play
hide and seek amongst
miniature castles
sculptured by
nature’s
deft
hand.
